Joint Statement
of the Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Bohdan Mykhailovych Danylyshyn and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez
On the occasion of the first visit in the history of independent Ukraine of a U.S. Secretary of Commerce held June 4-5, 2008, the parties make the following joint statement concerning trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and the United States of America:
The parties acknowledge that Ukraine's accession to the World Trade Organization opens new opportunities to deepen bilateral trade and investment between the two nations. The Ukrainian side expressed appreciation for U.S. Government support in the course of Ukraine's accession to the WTO.
The Ministry of Economy and Department of Commerce entered into a Memorandum of Understanding, agreeing to develop and expand a cooperative relationship aimed at promotion of free and fair trade and the objective application of trade remedies and relief through antidumping, countervailing duty, and other trade laws.
The sides highlighted that creation of a Ukrainian-American Council for Trade and Investment is an important step in the development of partnership relations between Ukraine and the United States of America.
The parties agree to continue working on a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the U.S. Export-Import Bank to further encourage and support long term investment and trade between Ukrainian and American exporters.
Both sides affirm their intent to resolve all sensitive issues in bilateral cooperation according to the principles of partnership and mutual understanding.
