The United States Government sponsors the following programs in Ukraine to help support the development and viability of Ukrainian independent media.
Professional Training
- Internews-Ukraine: Intensive eight-week news production courses for television and radio journalists; 2-4 week on-site consultancies on business development, management, and news production. Tel: (380 44) 458-4440, Web site www.internews.ua/en.
- IREX, ProMedia Ukraine: Workshops and seminars for print journalists on topics related to reporting, legal and ethical issues, management and business. Editorial and business consultancy for individual newspapers. Tel: (380 44) 537-0604, Web site www.irex.kiev.ua.
- IREX, Ukrainian Media Partnership Program: Works with the independent print and broadcast media sectors in Ukraine to develop professionally managed Ukrainian media outlets that produce objective news and reporting, by creating and sustaining five partnerships among US and Ukrainian television stations and newspapers. Provides on-site, individualized training in the following key areas: Business Management, Advertising and Marketing, Professional Journalism, News Programming, Strategic Management. Production
- Internews-Ukraine: Technical and financial support provided to private television and radio stations for informational program production at Internews' Kyiv facility and on-site at regional stations. Tel: (380 44) 458-4440, Web site www.internews.ua/en

Legal Training and Support

- U.S. Embassy, Public Affairs Section: Short- and long-term U.S.-based training for media professionals and journalism students and professors, including the Muskie Fellowship Program, the The Eurasian Undergraduate Exchange Program (UGRAD), Junior Faculty Development Program, Fulbright Program, Colleges and University Partnership Program, Community Connections and the International Visitor Program. - Eurasia Foundation provides grants to support the development of a
free and independent media in Ukraine. Grants are directed toward
strengthening journalistic professionalism, facilitating citizen access to
information, business development and protection of journalist's rights.

- U.S. Embassy, Public Affairs Section, Media Development Fund: The Fund is indended to support the development of free and independent media in Ukraine and will provide a wide range of support to Ukrainian journalists, media organizations and other non-governmental groups. It is designed to address a number of press concerns in Ukraine's current media environment:
- Improving the legal, administrative and tax environment for Ukrainian media.
- Expanding the use of the Internet as a news and information tool.
- Improving professional standards among journalists.
- Increasing direct grant support for Ukrainian media and non-governmental organizations.
